Young Adult Center News Detail
Sent 8/8/24
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of the Young Adult Center,
I hope this letter finds you enjoying some sunshine and getting excited for the new 2024-2025 school year. We are anticipating some new peers this year to welcome into our classes, and we are excited to greet them. At this time, you will be able to see your young adult’s class assignment via ParentVUE if you click on the CLASS SCHEDULE tab located on the left side of your screen along with your bus pick up and drop off time. The lunch menus that the young adults will be preparing for themselves will be available via a newsletter from your teachers. If you have any questions about how to access ParentVUE, please contact support@lz95.net.
Attendance Information
As we prepare to start the school year, it is important that students and families establish regular routines to maximize student attendance to the Young Adult Center. Students have various job experience responsibilities and in-building life skills responsibilities that their peers are counting on them to work on as a team. If there are attendance concerns for family trips or illness, please remember to contact the Young Adult Center at (847) 540-5601 so we know to not to expect the young adults to be onsite that day.
Safety Information
We will be welcoming the young adults back from summer with reminders about:
- Standard Response Protocol (SRP), our emergency response protocol used to address safety concerns and drills (families can learn more through https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html)
- Safe2Help, our anonymous reporting tool for safety concerns
Bus Expectations
Please remind the young adults of bus behavior expectations including no food or drinks on the bus ride, safe driving volumes for our bus drivers, keeping aisles clear, and remaining seated on the bus. For more information, please refer to Chapter 4 of the Parent-Student Handbook.
Community Building Efforts
As part of our District Strategic Plan, Empower95, a Student Success Council was convened during the 23-24 school year. This council consisted of students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff; the group focuses on identifying ways to maximize feelings of belonging and inclusion for all students in our system.
As part of these efforts, we will be launching #BetterTogether95 during the 24-25 school year. As part of this initiative, there will be a series of community-building and inclusion activities throughout the year - as well as collective commitments that students and staff will review as a learning community. We look forward to this work, and to sharing more as the year progresses!
Additionally, please take a moment to review three upcoming community flyers added below. The Young Adult Center team can’t wait to see your young adult soon! If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 847-726-5600.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tanya Guild, Director of Student Services Secondary & Principal of the YAC
